Beyond the Book Presents: The West Virginia Mine Wars

Beyond the Book Presents: The West Virginia Mine Wars

In the early 20th century, miners across the Mountain State began organizing a series of strikes and organizing campaigns known as the "Mine Wars" in an attempt to unionize and bring better conditions to the mining towns, primarily in the southernmost counties of West Virginia. WVU Professor William Hal Gorby will explain what led to the Mine Wars and document the key moments that occurred from Paint Creek to Cabin Creek, Matewan, Blair Mountain, and even more local events in the Fairmont region in the 1920's.

Join us Monday, January 31 at 5:30 PM at the Marion County Public Library in Conference Room B for a fascinating exploration of local and state history of the Mine Wars.
