Beyond the Book presents "Safety and Health Disasters: A Compendium of Industrial and Moral Disasters"
Illness, injury and death in the workplace are realities all employees and communities face without the oversight and guidance of NIOSH, OSHA, labor unions, and whistleblowers. Even with those safeguards in place, profit can overrule safety and ethics in industrial decision making. Kim Murphy, co-founder of Benchmark Safety, Health & Environmental Services will walk us through the history of tragedies that resulted in workplace safety and health regulations and agencies.
This virtual event is open via Webex, a user-friendly conferencing platform. Participants can choose to connect online for both audio and visual or just by phone, depending on your comfort level and internet availability. Participants must register by noon on May 13 with an active email address. Registered participants will receive an emailed invitation link to the virtual meeting.
Please note that this program is associated with Beyond the Book Club’s discussion of Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women by Kate Moore. If you would like to attend the book club discussion meeting, details are available in the May 24 event listing.
